History of the CIA Basketball Program

2004–05: Basketball team is launched under Head Coach Mike Murphy as one of CIA athletics flagship programs upon joining the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

2006–07: Serge Nalywayko coaches the team with help from Jeff Wilk, assistant coach and CIA student.

2008–09: Sean Furey takes over as head coach as the CIA Steels finish the regular season with a 6-7 record, 3-3 in the conference, and, for the first time ever, qualify for the conference postseason tournament as the No. 4 seed. Team captain Dan Jackson is named to the Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference (HVMAC) All-Conference team.

2009–10: The Steels again claim the No. 4 seed for the HVMAC tournament with a 6-7 record. Victor Lane and Corey Johnson are named to the All-Conference team.

2010–11: The basketball team finishes 5-10 and places fifth in the HVMAC.

2011–12: The Steels finish 4-10 and again place fifth in the HVMAC.

2012–13: Tim McEnroe joins as the new head coach.

2013–14: The Steels finish with a 6-10 overall mark that includes a team-record five consecutive wins. Veterans Max Goldberg, Wayne McFarlane, and Ian Whalley lead the way alongside newcomers Ricardo Washington and Avery Britton, who is named to the All-Conference team.

2014–15: The Steels achieve two milestones: most wins in a season (9) and the first regular-season record above the .500 mark (9-7).

2015–16: The basketball team earns a 7-8 record as well as national recognition in The New York Times and ESPN SportsCenter.

2017–18: The team was featured on ESPN for the second time in three years, and CIA student Aaron Ruzinsky was named to the 2018 All-HVIAC Basketball Team.
